COVID-19 Update June 2, 2025: India Records 5 New Deaths, Active Cases Near 4,000

As of June 2, 2025, India’s active COVID-19 case count stands at 3,961, with 203 new cases reported on June 1 alone, according to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoH&FW). The death toll since January 2025 has now reached 32, with five new fatalities reported on Sunday.

The surge in daily numbers has prompted heightened surveillance and preventive measures from the health authorities across multiple states.

State-Wise COVID-19 Updates – June 2

Several states have reported an uptick in COVID-19 cases, as well as fatalities:

Delhi

  • New Cases: 47

  • Active Cases: 483

  • New Deaths: 1
    Delhi continues to see a steady rise in infections. One new death was reported, bringing increased focus on urban containment strategies.

Kerala

  • New Cases: 35

  • Active Cases: 1,435

  • New Deaths: 1
    Kerala remains the worst-hit state with the highest number of active cases as of June 2.

Maharashtra

  • New Cases: 21

  • Active Cases: 506

  • New Deaths: 1
    Maharashtra, which has previously dealt with major waves, has again seen a small but concerning rise in cases.

West Bengal

  • New Cases: 44

  • Active Cases: 331
    No new deaths have been reported, but the daily case tally remains significant.

Tamil Nadu

  • New Deaths: 1
    Tamil Nadu reported one COVID-19 fatality since Sunday. New case numbers were not included in the current update.

Centre Assures Full Preparedness

Union Minister of State for Health and AYUSH, Prataprao Jadhav, stated that the Central government is fully prepared to manage any COVID-related developments.

“Both the Central Health Department and the AYUSH Ministry are closely monitoring the situation. We’ve spoken with all state-level health authorities,” he said in a statement to ANI on May 30.

The MoS highlighted that existing infrastructure from previous COVID waves, such as oxygen plants and ICU beds, is ready and operational if required.

“Preparations are already underway. Our health systems are equipped and on alert for any potential spike,” Jadhav added.

Karnataka Issues School Advisory Amid COVID-19 Surge

In light of the recent uptick in infections, the Karnataka Health Department has issued a circular for government and private schools, asking them to take preventive actions:

  • Students with symptoms like fever, cough, and cold should not be sent to school.

  • Medical treatment and care should be followed as per a doctor’s advice.

  • Schools are also advised to maintain basic hygiene protocols and monitor student health daily.
