Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan Evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan (PM-SURAJ) : Prime Minister Narendra Modi has introduced the Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan (PM-SURAJ) national portal, a groundbreaking initiative focused on uplifting the most marginalized sections of society. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to prioritizing the development of marginalized communities and ensuring their inclusion in the nation’s progress.

What is Pradhan Mantri Samajik Utthan evam Rozgar Adharit Jankalyan / PM-SURAJ 2024 ?

At the launch event, PM Modi introduced the PM-SURAJ portal, designed to offer credit support to 100,000 entrepreneurs from underprivileged backgrounds nationwide. This initiative will enable the government to distribute a substantial ₹720 crores in financial aid directly to beneficiaries in more than 500 districts through their bank accounts.

During his speech, the Prime Minister highlighted the government’s steadfast dedication to uplifting the underprivileged, affirming, “This event showcases the government’s dedication to putting the underprivileged first.” He expressed contentment with the effective reach of welfare programs to Dalits, deprived, and backward communities, sharing a heartfelt sentiment, “This deeply moves me as I consider them not separate from myself; I see them as my own family.”

PM Modi emphasized the crucial role of including marginalized communities in the country’s development journey. He stressed the value of programs like PM-SURAJ, which offer direct financial aid to beneficiaries, cutting out middlemen and commissions for a more efficient and transparent process.

PM Modi emphasized his government’s commitment to breaking away from past mindsets by providing essential amenities like gas connections, bank accounts, and toilets to Dalits, backward, deprived, and tribal communities. He highlighted that marginalized communities are the primary beneficiaries of initiatives such as free ration, medical care, solid houses, toilets, and Ujjwala gas connections, ensuring those on the outskirts receive vital support and services.

Upliftment SC, ST, and OBC Communities

The Prime Minister emphasized the government’s dedication to empowering the Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Other Backward Class (OBC) communities. He noted that support for these communities from different institutions has doubled over the past decade. Additionally, the government has allocated almost ₹1.60 lakh crores this year solely for the welfare of the SC community, showcasing a significant commitment to their upliftment and progress.

Education and Entrepreneurship

PM Modi highlighted the government’s focus on education and entrepreneurship for marginalized sections. He mentioned initiatives such as increasing scholarships for SC, ST, and OBC youth, reserving 27% of medical seats for OBCs in the all-India quota, enabling OBC students to participate in NEET exams, and supporting underprivileged students pursuing Master’s and PhD degrees abroad through the National Overseas Scholarship.

Furthermore, the Prime Minister emphasized schemes like Mudra Yojna, providing around ₹30 lakh crores in financial aid to the poor, including SC, ST, and OBC communities. He also mentioned the Standup India Scheme and Venture Capital Fund Scheme, aimed at fostering entrepreneurship among these communities.

Health and Safety of Frontline Workers

At the event, PM Modi distributed Ayushman Health Cards and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) kits to Safai Mitras (sewer and septic tank workers) as part of the National Action for Mechanized Sanitation Ecosystem (NAMASTE). This initiative is designed to protect the health and safety of frontline workers who play a crucial role in challenging sanitation conditions.

PM Modi reiterated the government’s dedication to ensuring dignity and justice for the underprivileged, declaring, “This reflects our pledge to uphold the dignity and rights of the marginalized. I assure you that our efforts for the development and empowerment of the deprived will only grow stronger in the next 5 years. Together, we will realize the vision of a Developed India.

Acknowledging the government’s initiatives to offer vital services like gas connections, bank accounts, and toilets to marginalized communities, the Prime Minister emphasized that achieving a ‘Developed India’ by 2047 hinges on uplifting the underprivileged sections.
